This is a message from Ottawa Community Housing - OCHÂ regarding the official reopening of the OPF Fridge and Pantry at 415 MacLaren (we have had a soft opening a few weeks ago) on November 20th at 4 PM.
Hello!
As many of you know, in the spring of this year, the Ottawa Public Foods Pantry sustained damage from a fire. Since then, community volunteers, partners, staff and local contractors have generously helped to keep food donations coming to the community and repair the damages to the structure.
You are all invited to join us for a reopening celebration of the Ottawa Public Foods Pantry as the community comes together to thank the generous people who helped to repair this important asset in Centretown. This celebration will be very brief at 4-5 p.m. on November 20th. Drop by and have a hot chocolate with us and bring a contribution for the fridge or pantry.
We invited and will be thanking staff from Carleton University, Bassi Construction, PuroClean, Xpertek Construction and Imperial Electric, Centretown CHC and many others from the community. Please share and extend this invite to any and all people who have helped bring this structure back to life!
Dress warmly, as we hope to meet at the Public Foods Pantry. We’ll have lots of hot chocolate. If the weather is not cooperating, we’ll meet in the ground floor lounge of 415 MacLaren.
Consider bringing any food donations to leave in the fridge or pantry.
Please join us if you can and looking forward to seeing you all in a few days!

OPF volunteers are also busy leading cooking classes at 415 MacLaren (thank you Elaine S. and Marisa R.!) with the cooperation of Ottawa Community Housing - OCHÂ (thanks Gavin!). Yesterday, orange ginger pork with rice pilaf and apple crumble with ice cream were on the menu. Since there were not enough students to take all the results, the surplus was boxed up and put in the OPF fridge and pantry and didn't last long! Stay tuned for the next class.

Tomorrow will be a big day. Yes we plan to be open again after a long repair period. The crooked pavers in front of the fridge have been leveled and we are excited!

Thank you Elaine and Urban Farm Solutions for your donation. Elaine has delivered the packages to MacLaren Towers.
September 20: There was a cooking activity at MacLaren Towers. On the menu: majestic bean salad, garlic cheese bread and scones with orange sauce. Thirty residents attended and enjoyed the food.
